REACT-EU: €66.5 million to maintain jobs and improve skills in Luxembourg and Sweden

The Commission has granted a total amount of €66.5 million to the European Social Fund (ESF) Operational Programmes (OP) in Luxembourg and Sweden as recovery support for cohesion and European territories. Europe (REACT-EU). The additional resources will help people keep their jobs during the pandemic or find new ones, as well as build their skills for a fair, inclusive and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. In Luxembourg, the ESF PO will receive an additional €3.5 million to support the partial unemployment scheme for sectors hard hit by the COVID-19 crisis.

With last year’s REACT-EU funding, the program will help some 45,000 workers keep their jobs. The scheme prioritizes companies that contribute to a green, digital and resilient recovery of the economy. In Sweden, an additional €63m for the national ESF OP will help people acquire new or additional skills. Some 25,500 workers and job seekers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic will benefit from labor market training, career guidance, matching activities with potential employers and preparations for additional studies or training. At least a quarter of new funding in Sweden will equip people with the skills needed for green and digital transitions. REACT-EU is part of NextGenerationEU and provides €50.6 billion of additional funding (in current prices) during 2021 and 2022 to Cohesion Policy programs 2014-2020.
