France election: 'Many voted to build a barricade against the far-right', says Macron

Projections show that Emmanuel Macron beat Marine Le Pen, a far-right candidate, to win the French presidency.

Macron won 58% of the vote, to Le Pen’s 42%. This is a narrower win than their 2017 contest.

He spoke to his supporters in Paris’ centre-center and asked them not to boo Marine Le Pen’s name. He said, “From now, I’m not the candidate of one camp but the president for all.”
