According to Ukraine, Russian troops were fighting in the east and south. Moscow claimed its forces attacked Ukrainian armour hangars that housed M777 howitzers made by the United States. This type of artillery can be found near Kostyantynivka in Donetsk.
Pavlo Kyrylenko (Donetsk Governor) stated that the strike against an apartment building took place on Saturday night in Chasiv Yar. The attack on the apartment building was reported by the regional emergency services as 15 deaths.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office, wrote on Telegram that six people had been rescued from the rubble at Chasiv Yar, and that 23 people, including one child, were still buried.
“We ran to the basement, there were three hits. Ludmila, a local resident, said that the first hit was in the kitchen. As rescuers lifted the body from a white sheet, she spoke and cleared the rubble using a crane.
“The second, I don’t even remember, lightning. We ran straight into the basement, then towards the second entrance. We sat there until morning and then went to bed. Venera, another survivor stated that she wanted her kittens to be saved.
She wept, “I was thrown into the bathroom, it was chaos, it was all. I was shocked, all covered in blood.” She said, “The room was full of rubble and three floors had collapsed by the time that I got out the bathroom.” The rubble was not able to find the kittens.
Andriy Ermak is President Volodymyr Zelskiy’s chief of staff. In a Telegram posting, he stated that the strike was “another terrorist attack” and Russia should become a state sponsor.
Russia claims that it is conducting a military operation to demilitarize Ukraine. It denies that it intentionally attacked civilians.
The Donbas, Ukraine’s eastern industrial zone that includes Donetsk or Luhansk, is Ukraine’s easternmost region. For generations, it has been Europe’s most significant battlefield. Russia is determined take control of Donbas from the separatists it backs.
The West has been supporting Ukraine with weapons and severe sanctions against Russia. Moscow’s invasion is considered unprovoked aggression by the West.
Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions near the Donetsk city of Sloviansk but were forced to withdraw by the military. According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces launched a missile strike against Kharkiv (northern Ukraine) from their border. The military didn’t provide any details on the casualties or damages.
Serhiy Gaidai, governor of Luhansk, stated that Russian forces were gathering near Bilohorivka (about fifty kilometers (30 miles) east Sloviansk).
Russia is “shelling around settlements and conducting air strikes, but it is still in no position to quickly occupy Luhansk,” he said on Telegram.
Russia took over all Luhansk’s provincial governments last weekend.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed its forces destroyed two Donetsk hangars near Kostyantynivka where they stored M777 howitzers, which were made by the United States. According to the defense ministry, the guns were used for bombardment of Donetsk residents.
Russian news agencies reported on Sunday that separatist officials claimed that Ukraine was bombarding Donetsk using NATO-standard 155mm guns. Two other residents were also injured.
Reuters could not independently verify authenticity of battlefield accounts.
The Ukrainian military spokespersons weren’t immediately available for comment.
According to Ukraine’s military command missiles and artillery were launched by Ukrainian forces at Russian positions in southern Ukraine. This included ammunition depots located in the Chornobaivka area.
Iryna Vereshchuk was Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minster. She advised the Kherson area civilians to evacuate as Ukraine’s Armed Forces planned a counter-attack. She didn’t give a timeframe.
She said that she was certain that children and women should not be in the area, and that they should not be used as human shields.
