Sri Lanka: Four key moments from storming of PM's office

Protesters from Sri Lanka stormed Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office as acting prime minister.

Many thousands of people gathered in front of the compound where the prime minister was located, which was well guarded and manned by security forces.

Demonstrators broke through the gates of the building and climbed the walls after clashes with police using tear gas and water cannon.

After protests against a worsening economic crisis, Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country. This is the worst situation Sri Lanka has seen in decades.
