H.E. officially opened the inaugural Caribbean Culinary Week at Sofitel Brussels Europe last evening. H.E. Joy-Ann Skinner, Ambassador of Barbados, was present. Ambassador Edita Hrda is the permanent representative of the Czech Republic and Ambassador to the Council of the European Union.
The Caribbean Culinary Week is held at The 1040 Restaurant of the Hotel Sofitel Brussels Europe, July 25-29. It is part of the Caribbean Days promotion by the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce in Europe. This series of events aims to highlight ‘The Best of the Caribbean.’ There are several trade workshops that promote premium Caribbean products, services, and Caribbean Films.
Ambassador Skinner, the current co-ordinator for the CARIFORUM group of ambassadors at Brussels (CGAB), stated: “We welcome the Caribbean Days promotion in Brussels as an excellent way of raising the profile of Caribbean, which isn’t as well-known in Belgium as other regions are. The Caribbean Culinary Week allows patrons from all walks of the Caribbean to enjoy its rich cultural heritage, including the best gastronomic and artistic flavours.
The award-winning celebrity chef Orlando will prepare a 4-course Caribbean Cuisine Menu for the Caribbean Culinary Week. This is an exclusive opportunity to enjoy the best Caribbean cuisine at a reduced rate of 49 Euros.
Derrick Orlando Satchell, better known as Chef Orlando is a British born, internationally-accredited and award-winning Caribbean celebrity chef, who made Saint Lucia his home, where he owns and operates Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar.
His culinary establishment, Chef Orlando, has been named one of the “Top Three in the Caribbean” and won the title of “Caribbean chef of the Year” at the 2020 Caribbean Travel Awards. Caribbean Journal voted Orlando one of the top chefs in the region in 2018, and 2019. He was also recognized as the only Caribbean restaurant that has been rated as one of the most outstanding in the world by Travel & Leisure and Food & Wine 2020. This accolade was only given to the Top Chef’s Saint Lucian restaurant by the renowned rated publications. The annual ‘World’s Best Restaurants’ list is a collaboration between Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine. It celebrates the best restaurants that capture the culture, spirit, and cuisine of their respective communities.
In 2019, Chef Orlando received a Gault Millau France award, and was named one of the top Caribbean restaurants by Trip Advisor.
