‘Look, no tie’: Spanish PM urges casual wear to stay cool, save energy

Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, asked officials and ministers to stop wearing ties Friday as Europe experiences heatwaves. This will lead to a rise in demand for energy-intensive air conditioning.

Sanchez said that Sanchez wasn’t wearing a tie to a news conference. This is a way of saving energy.

Europe’s high summer temperatures put strain on its power systems. Concerns are being raised about the possibility that a regional drive could be implemented to save gas in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In a serious statement, Sanchez said that his government would take immediate measures to improve efficiency and energy savings.

He stated, “I’ve already asked ministers and public officials. If they don’t have ties, I’d like to ask them to stop wearing them. It will help us face the energy savings that are so critical in our country.
