German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that while Europe could have a debate about banning Russian tourists from Germany, it was important to not make it harder for Kremlin supporters to flee Russia.
After a meeting in Oslo with Nordic leaders on Monday (15 Aug), he stated that “What is important is that we realize there are a lot people fleeing Russia because they disagree the Russian regime.”
He said, “All of the decisions that we make should not make it harder to leave the country, in order to get away from the leadership or the dictatorships in Russia.”
Many European countries, including Finland’s Sanna Marina, called for Russian tourists being banned from the EU in order to make sure they also pay a penalty for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
