Several killed in the Netherlands as truck rolls into street party

The Dutch police stated on Saturday (27 Aug) that several people were killed in an accident in which a truck crashed into a street party at Nieuw Beijerland, in the south of Holland.

Police did not provide any details about the casualties but said they were investigating the incident that occurred at around 7 p.m. (1700 GMT), approximately 30 km (19 mi) south of Rotterdam.

Elianne Mastwijk, a spokesperson for the police, told Rijnmond that a truck had crashed into the party at some point.

Mastwijk stated that it was not clear what caused the accident or how many people were injured or killed. The truck had not been removed from the scene.

Rijnmond Pictures and other local media sites showed a Spanish transport truck at the bottom a small dyke with picnic tables.
