Zelenskiy works the phone to rally support against Russia, thanks allies

Volodymyr Zeleskiy, the Ukrainian President (pictured), called some foreign leaders Wednesday 28 September as Moscow seemed ready to annexe large areas of Ukrainian territory. Later, he thanked them all for their support.

Zelenskiy met leaders from Britain and Canada to demand more military aid and stronger sanctions against Moscow after what Kyiv and Canada called illegal sham elections.

“Thanks for all your clear and unambiguous support. Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to you for understanding our position in a late night video address.

“Russia can’t and won’t allow Ukraine to seize any part of our country.”

The United States claimed that it was working together with its allies to impose severe economic sanctions on Moscow. The European Union executive proposed new sanctions.

After speaking with Liz Truss, the British Prime Minister, Zelenskiy tweeted that there should be an increase in “defence” as well as “financial assistance to Ukraine.”

Olaf Scholz also gave Zelenskiy the promise that Berlin would continue supporting Ukraine’s humanitarian, political and financial needs.

According to a spokesperson for the German government, Scholz stated that Germany would continue to support Ukraine’s defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity. This includes arms deliveries.
