Former PM Boris Johnson picks up £135,000 pay cheque for 90 minutes’ ‘fireside’ chat in America

Boris Johnson, former UK prime minister, was paid PS135,000 to give a speech at an American conference for the insurance industry. writes Philip Braund.

He registered his company, ‘The Office of Boris Johnson Limited’ at Companies House, 24 hours before the bumper pay day.

After his departure from 10 Downing Street, Johnson is expected make millions in public speaking.

His annual salary as PM was PS164.080.


He is also looking for a return to journalism to complete the long-awaited biography on William Shakespeare.

Johnson spoke at the Insurance Leadership Colorado Springs.

It was described as an “exclusive discussion about global politics and economys”.


After a 30-minute talk, he had a 45-minute “fireside chat” with the audience.

He talked about Brexit and Ukraine and his birth in New York.

He also spoke about Donald Trump and The Queen while enjoying Emmanuel Macron’s “very fancy French wine” with Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor at the time.

He remained silent about Liz Truss, his successor, and the economic storm facing the UK.

“It was an honor, a privilege and a great chance to have the opportunity to be so close with Mr Johnson in such an open setting.

“I found him to be very relaxed.

“He talked about many topics about the current state of economics, Ukraine and in the global economy.

“He spoke a bit about the things he had achieved in his years as PM.

“He spoke a lot about Brexit and the reasons for leaving the European Union.

“He is still a strong believer in Brexit, and that Brexit will be good for the UK.”
