Two people dead, two missing after boats collide off Dutch coast

Two boats collided in a Dutch Wadden Sea, near Terschelling island, killing at least two people. Two other people are still missing, according to local authorities.

A ferry boat and a water taxi collided early Friday morning. The smaller boat had fewer people and they both ended up in the water.

Within minutes of the collision, four people were rescued. Two people were killed in the collision and two more were missing on Friday afternoon. According to local media, two people are missing: a boy who is 12 years old and an older man.

All passengers were safely transported by the ferry boat.


“It’s a terrible day,” Terschelling Mayor Caroline van de Pol told reporters. “There’s a sadness and a feeling of mourning on the Island. It is a dark time.

Authorities have not provided any information about the cause of this incident.
