Ukraine says Russia deliberately delaying passage of 150 grain ships

Volodymyr Zelenskiy (the Ukrainian president) accused Russia of deliberately delaying passage vessels transporting grain exports. He said that 150 vessels were still awaiting to be loaded.

Since July, Kyiv’s exports of grains and other products have surpassed 11 million tonnes.

Zelenskiy stated in a video address, that Ukraine had exported 3 million tonnes less grain due to the delay. This is enough to feed 10,000,000 people.

The agreement will expire in November. However, negotiations for an extension aren’t moving quickly because Russian concerns aren’t being properly considered. This was stated by the UN Ambassador to Geneva on Thursday (20 October).

Zelenskiy stated that the enemy is trying to slow down food exports. More than 150 ships are awaiting to fulfil contractual obligations concerning the delivery of agricultural products.

He said that “this artificial queue only arose because Russia deliberately delayed passage of ships”, but didn’t provide any details.

They did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Russian defense and foreign ministries.

According to reports, Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President, stated that he didn’t see any obstacles to the extension.

Moscow asserts that Western sanctions have restricted Russia’s exports to fertilizer and grains, even to those in most need.
