France’s Macron says there is chance for peace in Ukraine

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, stated that he believes Ukraine can be peaceful despite Russia’s warnings.

Macron stated that peace is possible and will be achieved at some point. This was at the Rome conference which sought to find ways to promote peace around the globe.

Macron said: “And at some specific moment, given how things are developing and when Ukraine’s citizens and its leaders will decide upon the terms, a peaceful agreement can be made to the other side.”

France has repeatedly stressed that Moscow should be kept in the loop regarding Western diplomatic channels since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

Russia launched drones at Ukrainian-held Mykolaiv, Sunday. Moscow claimed that the conflict was headed towards an “uncontrolled escalation”.

Sergei Shoigu (Russian Defense Minister) discussed Ukraine in separate phone calls with Sebastien Leonu, France’s Armed Forces Minister, and Lloyd Austin, the US Defense Secretary.

Shoigu stated that Ukraine could use a dirty bomb, conventional explosives laced in radioactive material. Russia claims that it can defend Russian territory with its nuclear arsenal. However, Ukraine does not have nuclear weapons.
