Ukrainian troops hold a significant control over a critical road that links two Russian-occupied areas to the east of Ukraine. Pro-Kyiv officials said on Friday (28 Oct)
After seizing large areas of territory with a lighting attack in Ukraine, Ukrainian forces are moving eastwards into Luhansk and aiming at the Russian-occupied town Svatove, which is located 45 km (28 miles) south of Svatove). These are the major settlements in the same areas.
The Ukrainian armed forces have taken control over virtually all roads between Svatove, Kreminna. Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of Luhansk stated that “our soldiers are moving daily.”
A Russian-backed separatist official claimed that heavy fighting was taking place in the Kreminna/Svatove areas on Wednesday, 26 October. Since September, when Ukrainian forces drove the Russian troops from Kharkiv, these areas have been on the frontline.
Separately, the Ukrainian military intelligence directorate claimed that its agents had overtaken Nevske along with regular troops on Sunday, killing 34 Russians. Nevske is located 10km (6 mi) west of the road connecting Svatove and Kreminna.
Svatove and Kreminna were not mentioned in the daily report of general staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces. Facebook posted an update stating that Russian forces had attacked many targets along a large section of the front line.
