Any Iranians that have provided missiles or drones Russia to the European Union in support of its war against Ukraine should be punished by it. This is in addition the sanctions Tehran has imposed for cracking down against protesters.
Tobias Billstrom is the Swedish minister for foreign affairs. He stated that they should impose sanctions if they can find the culprits.
“Those who support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine may have to be punished in a certain way.” He stated that sanctions are the only way to punish those who support Russia’s aggression against Ukraine after meeting with EU counterparts.
EU states have already agreed that assets will be frozen for three individuals and for one entity responsible for drone deliveries.
Ministers imposed new sanctions on Monday, 14 November against Iranian organizations and individuals. This was done in response to the use of force against peaceful protesters, according to the bloc.
Iran is currently engulfed by protests after Mahsa Amini’s death, a 22 year-old Kurdish girl taken into morality-police custody two months ago. Tehran blames its foreign enemies and agents for the unrest.
Billstrom said that the EU had added sanctions because the situation was getting worse and people are being attacked on the streets.
Emmanuel Macron, French President, said earlier that Iran’s leaders were repressing Iran. This would make it harder to reach a 2015 agreement that would have granted Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on Iran’s nuclear program.
Billstrom said that while he believes there is still room for maneuver in the nuclear agreement, he does not believe there can be compromise between human rights or reaching a deal on Tehran.
