France, Spain leaders to hold summit on 19 January – Macron

The French President Emmanuel Macron will meet in Spain with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on 19 January. This was announced by Macron in a tweet Friday (9/12/12) following a summit of nine Mediterranean countries in Alicante.

Macron called for a summit to improve relations after months of tensions surrounding the MidCat pipeline through the Pyrenees, which Macron opposed.

Friday’s announcement by Portugal and the two countries of the construction of an underwater hydrogen pipeline linking Barcelona to Marseille, replaced the MidCat gas pipeline.

We will continue to work with Pedro. Macron said that our countries share many things and our peoples have many commonalities, so Macron will be back in Spain on the 19th of January to continue working together.

Multiple sources from Madrid and Paris claimed that leaders of Franco-Spanish friendship were currently working on a new treaty.
