Volodymyr Zeleskiy, the President of Ukraine, proposed a global summit for peace this winter. This was in a video message Kyiv intended to broadcast prior to the final of the soccer World Cup. It was unlikely FIFA would allow the move.
CNN reported that Zelenskiy requested FIFA to let him share a message of peace with the world soccer governing body before the final.
“We offered Peace Formula to the world. It was fair. Because there are no losers in war, it was offered. In a video message, Zelenskiy stated that there can be no draw.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February as part of “special military operations”. These conflicts have caused thousands of deaths and left millions homeless.
“I am happy to announce that I will hold a Global Peace Formula Summit this winter. This summit will bring together all nations in support of global peace. He stated that stadium stands become empty after a match, and that war-torn areas are empty afterwards.
CNN reported Zelenskiy wanted a videolink appearance before Argentina’s final match against France at Doha’s Lusail Stadium. CNN confirmed that this was done in preparation for a crowd of hundreds of millions.
Multiple requests for comment were not answered by FIFA. It was unlikely, however, that Zelenskiy would get a platform because of its stance on political messages at World Cup.
Mykhailo Podolyak (a Ukrainian presidential aide) stated on Twitter that FIFA does not understand the catastrophe the Russian federation is dragging humanity in by starting a conflict with Ukraine.
In its largest bombardment against Ukraine since the start of the war, Russia fired more than 70 missiles Friday. This caused the loss of power in Ukraine’s second largest city and forced Kyiv to turn off all electricity.
