A senior official in eastern Ukraine claimed that Ukrainian forces had attacked a hotel where members of Russia’s private Wagner military organisation were staying. Many of them were killed.
Ukrainian television interviewed Serhiy Gaidai, the governor for the Russian-occupied Luhansk Region. He said that on Saturday (17/12/12), forces launched a strike against a Kadiivka Hotel, west of Luhansk’s main centre. Telegram channels shared photos of a building that had been largely destroyed.
They had a bit of a pop right there, right next to Wagner headquarters. Many of the people who were there died.
Russia’s defense ministry was not available for comment immediately.
Gaidai did not give any casualty figures, but he said that the survivors were not given adequate medical care.
He stated that he was certain at least half the survivors would die before they get medical care. They even stole equipment from our Luhansk region.”
Some Ukrainian media quoted local officials as saying that the hotel had been closed for some time.
The Wagner Group, a private military contractor , is well-known for its close ties to the Kremlin. It has also been deployed in many African nations.
Gaidai reported previously that Ukrainian forces had also struck other targets in Luhansk in August, including a Wagner headquarters at Popasna.
