Fifa is looking into how Salt Bae, a celebrity chef, and other people obtained “undue access” to the pitch at the World Cup finals in Qatar.
Salt Bae (real name Nusret Gokce) was photographed holding and kissing the World Cup Trophy after celebrating with Argentina’s win over France.
Fifa rules stipulate that the trophy cannot be held by anyone other than tournament winners and Fifa officials.
Fifa spoke out to BBC Sport and stated that “Following an evaluation, Fifa had been establishing how individuals gained undue acces to the pitch following the closing ceremony at Lusail Stadium on 18 December.”
“The appropriate internal action is taken. ”
Salt Bae is the owner of a chain luxury steakhouses. He rose to fame after his method for seasoning and preparing meat became an internet sensation in 2017.
Many former and current footballers have had meals at Salt Bae’s restaurants, including Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He posted a video in November of the World Cup where he was seen embracing Gianni Infantino (Fifa president) and later, sitting with Cafu, Roberto Carlos, and Ronaldo Carlos at the VIP seats for a match with Brazil legends.
Messi seemed to ignore Salt Bae during the chaotic scenes following Argentina’s victory.
