Messina Denaro was never ‘sole’ leader of Sicilian Mafia – prosecutor

After spending 30 years on the lam, Matteo Messina Denaro fled to Italy and was finally captured by the Italians. According to Palermo Maurizio de Lucia, he was not the only leader of Sicilian mafia.

De Lucia told reporters that Messina Denaro had been hiding in different parts of Italy over the past 30 years. This included Sicily.

General Pasquale Angelosanto of the ROS special forces unit at the Carabinieri Police stated at the same news conference that Messina Denaro was wearing a EUR35,000 watch when officers arrested him.
