Russia claimed that the Ukrainian military deliberately struck a hospital in eastern Ukraine, a Russian-held region. It said it was a war crime which left 14 people dead and 24 injured.
The allegations made by Ukraine were not immediately addressed. Reuters could not independently verify the report.
According to the Russian defense ministry, the strike allegedly targeted a hospital in Novoaidar, a Russian-held settlement. It was executed using an HIMARS rocket launcher system supplied by the United States.
The defense ministry stated that “a deliberate missile strike on a civilian medical facility is undoubtedly a war crime by the Kyiv Regime.”
“All those involved with the execution and planning of this crime will now be held responsible.”
It said that military and civilian medics have been treating soldiers and locals in the hospital for several months.
The West and Ukraine have both accused Russian forces of war crimes during the conflict, in which thousands of civilians were killed and many cities and towns were pounded with artillery and aerial strikes. Russia denies targetting civilians.
