The European Commission published its analysis reports on the ability of Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to accept the EU’s obligations. These reports give a detailed analysis of the situation in each country with respect to alignment with the EU acquis. This is the EU’s body that shares common rights and obligations. These reports are a complement to the Opinions of the European Commission on the three countries’ application for EU membership in June 2022. In accordance with Opinions that set out a number priority issues in this context, the European Council granted the three countries a European perspective and the candidate status for Ukraine/Moldova.
The Commission assessed the EU acquis’s approximation based on the responses to the questionnaires of the three applicants countries. It also used relevant information gathered in the context of intensive dialogues that were held over many years under the Association Agreements. The three applicants were evaluated on the same criteria as their merits.
