The Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas (Prime Minister of Estonia) met in Tallinn on 24 February to celebrate Estonia’s Independence Day. It was also the first year since Russia launched its illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine.
At the press conference that followed the meeting, President von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to Ukraine. “Ukraine will triumph because Ukrainians won’t flinch or step back,” the President stated. Ukraine will win because Europe, its partners and allies will remain strong.
The President reviewed the EU’s actions to help Ukraine and made Russia pay for its atrocities. She stressed that Ukraine must continue to have the resources it needs to defend itself.
