Emotional injured US Marine describes Afghanistan withdrawal ‘catastrophe’

Tyler Vargas-Andrews wept as he recalled his experience with the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

25-year-old ex-Marine was among several US military personnel assigned to protect Kabul’s airport during the 26 August attack by two suicide bombers on Afghans fleeing the Taliban during the US evacuation.

13 US soldiers and 170 Afghan civilians were killed in the bombing.

He spoke during the first of several Republican-led hearings that examined the Biden administration’s handling on the pull-out.
