Today’s meeting of the EU Support Hub for Internal Security and Border Management (Moldova) will be held in Brussels for the first ever time. The meeting will be co-chaired jointly by Commissioner Johansson, ministers from France, Spain, Slovakia, Lithuania and Czechia. This will be the fifth meeting of the hub, the first being at ministers’ levels since its launch in July 2022.
At 9:30 CET , Commissioner Johansson will host a press conference. It will be broadcast live on . Ministers will review the achievements of the hub during the meeting and discuss future priorities in internal security cooperation.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has had a major impact on security in Europe and elsewhere. Moldova, due to its geographic location, has a crucial role to play. The hub serves as an operational platform and supports cooperation between the EU, its agencies and the Member States on border management and internal security.
It operates in six priority areas: firearms, migrant smuggling, trafficking of human beings, preventing and countering terrorist and violent extremism; cybersecurity; and drug traficking. This hub will provide information on all existing support measures available to Moldovan authorities. It will also serve as a portal to EU-Moldova cooperation in support mechanisms for internal security and border management.
