Downing Street stated that the UK has signed off on the new Brexit agreement for Northern Ireland. It is called the “Windsor Framework” and it aims to make trade easier between Northern Ireland and the rest the UK.
It gives Stormont more power than EU rules and most Northern Ireland parties are pleased about it.
On Wednesday, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) voted against key parts of the deal and will not share power.
An earlier statement by the EU’s top Brexit negotiator stated that the framework allowed the UK to open a new chapter in their relationship.
Maros Sefcovic visited London to sign a new agreement with James Cleverly, UK Foreign Secretary, about what will happen following Brexit.
Mr. Sefcovic stated that the EU would continue to listen to all Northern Irish people and work towards peace.
He stated that both sides had “listened, understood and done what was best for us both.”
He stated, “Now, The Windsor Framework is the product of this real collaboration, and shared vision.”
