Spain’s PM Sanchez to push for ‘territorial integrity’ for Ukraine

Sanchez spoke to journalists at the Ibero-American Summit in the Dominican Republic and said he would discuss peace with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi Jinping is trying to position himself in the role of mediator in the conflict between Russia, Ukraine.

Sanchez stated that “the most important thing…is that when this peace in Ukraine is reached, it will be fair-and lasting… and when I talk about fair, we mean that Ukraine’s territorial integrity, which was violated by Putin is respected.” Sanchez spoke at a news conference.

Spain, a NATO member with a closely aligned foreign policy with the United States, has been a strong ally of Ukraine, and will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union (CoE) in July.

Beijing presented a 12-point plan for peace last month and demanded a ceasefire. Xi recently visited Moscow and described China’s position regarding the conflict as “impartial”.
