The commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi posted on his Telegram channel that “Around 2:30 AM (1130 GMT), Russian invaders launched an attack against Ukraine using strategic aviation planes.”
The report added that 15 of the 18 launched missiles were destroyed.
Officials from Kyiv wrote in the Telegram app that the missiles aimed at the capital had been destroyed. This was their second attack in three days.
The city administration stated that “according to preliminary information, no civilian casualties and no damage has been reported in residential areas or infrastructure.”
Officials said that air defence systems had also been activated to protect the Kyiv Region, which is an administrative entity separate from the city from Russian missiles.
Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipro Region Council, confirmed that Russia launched missiles overnight at other Ukrainian areas, including Dnipropetrovsk. Seven missiles were shot down by air defence crews, but 25 people needed medical attention.
Pavlohrad, in eastern Ukraine, was hit twice over night. An industrial enterprise, as well as 19 apartment blocks and 25 private houses, among other things, were damaged or completely destroyed.
Lukashuk added, “There are also fires and emergency services at work.”
Vladimir Rogov is an official of the Russian-backed Zaporizhzhia Region administration. He posted pictures and videos late Sunday of fires that he claimed were in Pavlohrad. Rogov also said Russian forces had struck military targets in Pavlohrad.
Russia claims that some recent strikes were designed to thwart Kyiv’s long-planned offensive in the east.
